Tutt and Carroll Names and Designs Brand Identity for Hibberd INK

Early this spring, the studio was brought on to determine the name and design the brand identity of Hibberd INK.

INK is a new co-working space in downtown South Bend and the latest piece of The Hibberd redevelopment project.

The Hibberd Printing Company was founded in South Bend in 1889 by Charles B. Hibberd. By 1926, the company’s growth in printing, bookbinding, and publishing necessitated the construction of a plant at 321 South Main Street, which they would operate in until the company’s dissolution in 1970.

Fast forward to 2016, and a local couple purchased the plant for $240,000 and in the following months, together with eight additional partners, gathered $6 million to undertake an ambitious redevelopment project — you can hear the story in their own words on episode thirty-three of South Bend on Purpose.

The risk is slowly paying off: upper floors are full of apartment-dwellers, and the first floor is filling up with small businesses, including Epoch Architecture, The Ragamuffin Bakery, Salon Nouveau, and Bend Yoga. INK is the next piece of the puzzle—a transformation of the one-story building next door into thirteen private, furnished offices.

To book a viewing of the office space, email bdoyle@bradleyco.com or call 574-237-6000.

In addition to the name and brand identity, we designed and installed signage above the building. Here is a sample of our work:
